Guide to White Mage Mastery

A few Key points below

1) when levelling you can get a lot of grief from tanks if you cast regen too early, poor tanks will struggle to pick up mobs it you have regen on a tank when they pull as the mobs will run past the tank to you. Hold fire on regen. The hate generated from regen is greatly over stated. Wait till all mobs on your agro list go red before casting regen or any heals or abilities for that matter!!

2) Shroud of Saints - reduces threat by 50% also gives a buff called refresh. This ability is not explained in game. Refresh regenerates mana! use it!

3) Prebuff group before pull which include stone skin (stone skin II)and protect

4) Mind is your primary stat, if an item has more Mind on it - it is an upgrade regardless of the other stats generally

5) Best secondary stats are often debated, however general consensus is as follows
Determination>Spell Speed> Piety>Crit>Accuracy
Piety become more valuable the less MP you have
Determination is always good
Spell speed equals more healing per second
Crit will generate more threat when you crit heal, but big heals are nice

Now lets get into the playing a white mage

Essential cross class skills

Virus - reduces targets strength - From Arcanist
Eye for an eye - Buff for tank - From Arcanist
Swiftcast - Instant cast on next spell - From Thaumaturge
Surecast - prevents interuption - From Thaumaturge

Optional cross class
blizzard II - weak aoe which binds- From Thaumaturge
Ruin - single target dps spell, useful for outputting dps when you are trying conserve mana - From Arcanist

Don't cross class
Physick - same as cure but no chance of procing Cure II free cast

Mechanics of White Mage Healing

Single target healing

regen and cure is the most efficient way to heal as WHM
Use eye for an eye as often as possible and use Divine Seal and Presence of mind to boost your healing out put as required.
Cure will proc free Cure II spell casts (no MP cost)
When it procs use it, this will help with mana efficiency
Cure II can proc 50% reduction on Cure III casts which is useful for aoe healing see AOE healing below.

AOE healing as White Mage
Cure III Medica I and Medica II are your aoe healing spells, understanding how to use these is a skill. To use them effectively make sure you have swiftcast and surecast (situational), this will make you a godly WHM.

Medica I has mid range of these aoe heals and is a good aoe heal if you are trying to deliver a light heal to a dispersed party.

When you are anticipating a lot of aoe damage and the party is spread out cast medica II and follow up with Medica I. Note Medica II will deliver a total healing equal to 2 medica I spells, half that healing is over 24 secs, leave it deliver the healing and don't go crazy over healing. You may be needed on the tank, so be sure to prioritise healing targets correctly. Medica II has the longest range.

Use Cure III for targeted healing, it lands a short range healing aoe around a target, it has the shortest cast time of all your aoe helaing spells, a lot of fights involve stacking mechanics usually when there is shared damage, cure III is perfect for topping up the raid after such hits on the parties HP pool, (e.g. thermionic Beam T9, Titan Ex, etc.), watch your agro and be prepared to use shroud of saints if you have to cast it a couple of times. Cure III can also be useful if melee take damage as they are often stacked on top of each other.

  • Use Swiftcast if you need to heal while moving!

Use Surecast if you know an aoe is incoming that interrupts, many fights have such mechanics.

Dealing Damage as WHM
Use cleric Stance

Single Target
Max dps on a target Rotation Aero II, Aero I, Fluid Aura, Presenece of mind, stone II,stone II….. refresh dots as needed

Aoe Damage
Presence of mind Holy spam

Strategies for sustaining a tank when lots of damage is incoming

Swift Cast Stoneskin, the more HP a tank has the more viable this becomes
Benediction - this is your panic button - restores tank to max HP, ignores healing debuffs on tank.
Use Presence of Mind - More spell speed, more Healing per second
Use Divine Light - More Healing potency, more Healing per second
Swift cast Holy - AOE stun will buy a few seconds to get off 2-3 cure II
Fluid Aura - Knock a mob off the tank, thus reducing incoming damage
Repose - Sleeps a target, becomes redundant at high level as most mobs are immune

Food And Potions
Potions of Mind for both healing and dpsing (cleric stance transfers the bonus mind to Intellect)
Examples of WHM food would Mulled Tea, Creamed Coffee

Most importantly, Don't get stressed! and Enjoy Healing!

Hey, I'd like to add something regarding to the prioritising of stats after mind and determination. I don't play WHM (have it at 50 so I know the basics) but I thought I'd share my thoughts on this anyway.

Piety works like Vitality and once you meet the "cap" (the amount you need to be fine in a raid) you shouldn't invest in it anymore. It's like a Strength Warrior build where the tanks stop building anymore vitality and put on DPS accessories instead of wasting the potential DPS they can help put in rather than having more HP.

Piety increases your mana pool so you can cast more spells, but theres a point where there really isn't a need in more mana when you can invest in spell speed or even more determination. Spell speed is a great stat but the last thing you want to do is burn your mana too fast since WHMs already burn it quite quick in comparison with a scholar.

In that regard, the WHM should put enough piety where they feel comfortable enough about their mana pool and to find out the efficient way to heal a fight. Once they know that efficient method of healing, they can take off some piety and invest it again in determination and/or spell speed. Just consider your play style when choosing which sub stat you want to prioritise.
